Legislative Resolutions and Supporting Documentation
Consistent with its mission statement and the goals of AAPdN and in creating a more just society, the
AAPdN through its Board of Directors has elected to take a position against the teen-aged death penalty.
The Board passed the resolution posted here unanimously on September 25, 2020.
Many thanks to our Fellows of the Academy, Drs. McCaffrey and Reynolds, for their commitment to this
influential project.
Here is the resolution in its entirety.
Please see the "Neuroscience and Death as a Penalty for Late Adolescents" article (view only) published in the Journal of Pediatric Neuropsychology, and authored by Drs. Robert J. McCaffrey and Cecil R. Reynolds for a comprehensive review on this important issue facing our youth.
Please also see the JPNP special issue on the Death Penalty Among Teen-Aged Offenders.

December 22, 2022
Dear Members of the Academy,
As the year comes to an end, so will my tour of duty end as President of the Academy. What follows is a brief summary of the State of the Academy on behalf of the Board of Directors (BOD). The BOD set some goals which at the time seemed more than realistic. One of the goals was to increase membership by 10%. Well, we greatly exceeded that goal as our current membership is over 500 members consisting of Fellows, Professional, Emeritus, and Student members.
Another goal was to incorporate our IDE values within our mission. The BOD participated in a values training and agreed to assure that our workshops, annual conference, and our BOD are developed consistent to our IED values. The 2023 Annual Conference Program is available here and registration here. You can see we are consistent to our mission, and our recent election of officers also reflects consistency with our values.
Financially, we are sound and now within practice of professional organization accounting practices and procedures. We have placed funds aside to assure our continuance. And, the BOD is also preparing to offer scholarships funds, so pay attention to our emails and announcements.
Our conference and workshops are now the standard for pediatric neuropsychology. For those who have examined the 2023 Conference Program will see that all offerings are compliant with our mission of diversity and inclusion. The same is true for our workshops, we are in the process of developing a workshop to focus on providing pediatric neuropsychological evaluations and care to those who are Spanish language dominant.
The Academy was asked to participate within the Minnesota Conference. Five delegates were submitted, knowing two would be chosen. Drs. Dodzik and Mucci were selected, Dr. Elaine Fletcher Janzen was selected as an alternate delegate. They attended a week’s long training in Minnesota and are each actively providing direction and leadership to the larger body of neuropsychology. The upcoming conference will provide an update to that process.
The Academy is in a great position to continue to lead pediatric neuropsychology and to foster leadership to the larger body of neuropsychology.
Dr. Patricia Mittelstadt will continue to direct the Academy and provide solid leadership to us all. She has been an active President-Elect, keeping current and helping with our leadership.
Dr. Mucci and team – thank you for the lost sleep; however, your gracious efforts had built a solid foundation for the Academy. Your continued efforts and the work of the BOD will continue us well.
Respectfully
Robert A. Leark, Ph.D., ABPdN
