Description

he practice of pediatric neuropsychology requires an individual who understands the complexity of the developing brain and the variables that influence the expression of brain dysfunction. Pediatric Grand Rounds provides a forum whereby complex pediatric cases are reviewed in an integrative manner, with the goal of presenting comprehensive conceptualization that critically analyzes the testing results within the context of contributing factors from the child’s background, including early development, medical status, neuroimaging, disease-specific factors, and psychosocial and academic functioning. Presentation of two cases that highlight the complexity of the acute and long-term medical and neuropsychological management of infectious diseases (i.e., COVID-19 Encephalitis and Rasmussen’s Encephalitis) will be discussed by the panel members. Audience participation is encouraged. As a result of attending this presentation, the participants will be able to: 1. Understand the challenges of assessing children and adolescents within the context of an infectious disease. 2. Integrate background data with neuropsychological assessment findings to form a coherent and meaningful case conceptualization. 3. Establish a link between known literature and clinical findings and recommendations.
