Abstract:

Pediatric brain tumors are one of the most common types of cancers in children and adolescents. Children and adolescents with pediatric brain tumors are often faced with challenges regarding their quality of functioning throughout survivorship, which includes their return to in-person learning (i.e., educational pain points). It is important for neuropsychologists to be informed about the necessary interventions and recommendations to provide to school systems during and after the evaluation process in order to support the patient's transition back to school and enhance their capability to learn to the fullest.

Objectives:

1. Describe the neurocognitive effects that children may experience as a result of cancer treatments, including chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery.

2. Explain how pediatric brain tumors can affect a child's ability to return to in-person learning, including challenges related to memory, attention, and social integration.

3. Identify and summarize evidence-based strategies that educators and school support staff can use to help students with a history of pediatric brain tumors overcome learning and behavioral challenges in the classroom.
